Understanding the Work
What Is Moral & Character Development?
Child moral and character development is an ongoing, lifelong process through which a person
learns to understand and distinguish right from wrong — developing a personal set of beliefs,
values, and behaviours that guide their actions and character.
It involves internalising fairness, empathy, and responsibility, shaped by family, culture,
experiences, and cognitive growth. Ultimately, it determines how a child makes decisions and how
they interact with the world around them.
CMHDA believes that character is not simply taught — it is formed. Through Gospel proclamation,
creative arts, and structured learning, we invest in the inner life of children so that virtue
becomes a lived reality, not just an aspiration.
