Program 01 — Urban Areas

Street Children Urban Areas

Streetism robs children of safety, education, and dignity. CMHDA walks alongside the most vulnerable children on city streets — bringing the love of Christ and practical, life-changing support.

Understanding the Crisis

What Is Streetism?

Streetism refers to the phenomenon of children and young people living and working on the streets, often due to poverty, family breakdown, urbanization, and difficult socioeconomic conditions.

It deprives children of their most fundamental rights — safety, education, nutrition, and love. Survival on the streets forces children into hawking, begging, or petty theft, and exposes them to exploitation, abuse, trafficking, and substance abuse.

The streets become both a home and a trap — shaping coping mechanisms that carry enormous risks to each child's growth, development, and future.

Our Response

Our Seven Objectives

CMHDA approaches street children with a holistic, Gospel-centred model — addressing spiritual, developmental, educational, and physical needs together.

01

Gospel Proclamation

We believe every street child carries the image of God. Our outreach teams share the love and message of Jesus Christ with children on the streets — the foundation of all we do.

02

Character Development

Through Bible-based teaching, mentoring, and life-skills programmes, we invest in the inner formation of children — shaping values, integrity, empathy, and godly character.

03

Educational Support

We provide learning materials, tutoring, school supplies, and bridging programmes to help street children re-engage with formal education and catch up with their peers.

04

Shelter

We work to connect children with safe housing — transitional shelters, family reintegration, and community-based homes — removing them from the dangers of sleeping on the streets.

05

Educational Opportunities

Beyond day-to-day support, we advocate for and facilitate enrollment in formal schools and vocational training centres — equipping children for a self-sustaining future.

06

Health Support

Street children face severe health risks. We connect children with medical care, fund treatments, provide hygiene kits, and partner with health organisations for preventive care.

07

Feeding

Hunger is a daily reality for many street children. Our feeding programmes provide regular, nutritious meals — restoring health, improving concentration, and showing children they are valued.

Root Causes

Why Children End Up on the Streets

Understanding the causes allows us to address the issue at every level — immediate relief and long-term transformation.

Poverty

Families unable to meet basic needs push children to fend for themselves on the streets.

Family Breakdown

Divorce, death, neglect, or abuse within the family forces children to seek safety elsewhere.

Rapid Urbanisation

Uncontrolled urban growth creates environments where many children are left without support.

Socioeconomic Conditions

Unemployment, inequality, and lack of social infrastructure place entire communities at risk.

"Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed." — Psalm 82:3
